Barbara Jo (Bennett) Snell, daughter of Robert H. and Shirley E. Bennett was born September 30, 1956 at March Air Force Base in Riverside, CA. She died peacefully on April 10, 2025 at the age of 68, surrounded by her husband, children and grandsons.
Barb lived at Fort Robinson & Purdum, Ne before moving to Clay Center, NE where she finished grade school & later graduated high school in 1974.
She held many jobs throughout her life including Lincoln Telephone operator and Avon lady (she didn't sell much but she sure did enjoy visiting with her customers) She later went on to be a bank teller at Genoa & Red Cloud, where she enjoyed taking care of her customers and their kids and pets, and the job that brought her the most joy was being a wife, mother and Grandma.
One May 1st, 1982 Barbara was united in marriage with Steve Snell in Clay Center, NE and to this union 3 children were born. She followed her cowboy from one end of the state to the other and then in January of 2021, purchased their forever home in Red Cloud, Ne. Unfortunately, in October 2015 she was diagnosed with a rare form of ALS which she bravely fought for the last 10 years until her passing. After her diagnosis she packed up her family and headed to her favorite place on earth, Fort Robinson, where she also spent part of her childhood. Her bubbly personality played a huge role in the many, many friendships she made throughout her life's journey. Another favorite pastime was following her children, grandchildren, niece and nephews to their many sporting events and cattle shows. She was their biggest cheerleader. Among her many talents, she was an amazing cook. Her goulash, creamed peas on toast and hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes will be missed, but not as much as her cheese ball at Christmas!
Surviving Barb are her husband Steve Snell, daughters Mary & Casey Snell of Red Cloud and son JayDee & wife Emily (Zeilinger) Snell of Hickman, also 5 grandchildren, Jaxon, Braedyn, Reed, Scarlett & Bennett Snell, 1 brother Robert (Paula) Bennett of Sargent, 3 sisters, DeeDee Bennett of Kearney, Jerri (Fred) Knapple of Hastings, Sandy (Todd) Bitterman of Broken Bow, 2 Sister-in-laws, Kim Soucie of Denton, Candy Krivda of Lincoln, Father-in- law, Allen Snell of Denton, Aunt Lois Bennett of Clay Center and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Shirley Bennett, Mother-in-law, Shirley Swope, sister-in-law, Debbie Snell and her faithful furry companion "Patch".
Funeral services were 11:00 am, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Gary Bennett officiating.
