Betty L. Gleason

Betty L. Gleason, the daughter of Olive Phoebe (Pitzer) and Norman Edgar Bass, was born November 17, 1944. She departed this life on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 6 days.

Betty grew up in the Inavale community and received her formal education graduating from the Red Cloud High School with the class of 1963. and received her Associate's Degree from the Lincoln School of Commerce. She was employed for a time in Lincoln as a secretary. On August 29, 1966 she was united in marriage with Phillip Gleason at Red Cloud. This union was blessed with two sons, David Allan and Timothy Lee. They made their home in the Guide Rock community where they farmed together. Betty worked for a number of years as a certified nursing assistant in Red Cloud and Superior at the nursing home and hospitals.

In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, bowling and fishing. She was an avid Nebraska football fan and enjoyed following their games. She possessed a love for animals and cherished the time spent around their home and farm. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family, and she especially cherished the time they spent with her sons and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Norman Bass; and a sister, Marjorie Bohrer.

Left to treasure her memory are her husband, Phil; two sons, David and wife Lisa of Kearney, Nebraska and sons, Zach and Dalton; and Tim and wife Karen Jo of O'Neill and children Garrett, Tyler and Hannah; a sister, Phyllis Osborne and husband Rodney of Holdrege, Nebraska; a brother, Jim Bass and wife Wanda of Phillipsburg, Kansas; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., July 27, 2011 at the Guide Rock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joel Rathbun and Rev. Dr. Joceylyn Tupper officiating. Interment was at the Guide Rock Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
