Bobby Gene Stokes

Bobby Stokes, age 59, Red Cloud resident, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his home in Red Cloud.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., July 25, 2009 at the Red Cloud Community Center with the Rev. Steve Wilson officiating.

Book signing will be held Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud.

The son of Helen Ruth (Rickard) and Elmer Dell Stokes, he was born December 22, 1949 at Red Cloud. Bobby attended the Red Cloud schools and graduated with the class of 1968. Following the completion of his formal education he was employed with Gideon Construction of Burwell.

A veteran of the United States Army, Bob served his country from November 25, 1969 until his discharge on November 17, 1971. He returned to Red Cloud where he was employed the Lambrecht Brothers Plumbing.

He was united in marriage with Diana Berns and to this union two daughters were born, Codi and Ashley. This marriage later dissolved. Bob continued his work in Red Cloud with Schulz Construction, and later with Reicks Plumbing and Flesner Construction all of Red Cloud.

In his leisure time enjoyed hunting, fishing, socializing with his many friends and spending time with his dog, Bo. He dedicated his time as his daughters were growing up as their summer softball coach, and always looked forward to following their many activities. He was a 30-year member of the Red Cloud Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Cowles American Legion Post.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and a sister Shirley Just.

Left to treasure his memory are his daughters, Codi Stokes and Jamee Thieman of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Ashley Jurey and husband Jeremy of Lincoln; his fiancee, Robin Hitchler of Red Cloud; two sisters, Dee Stokes of Red Cloud and Virginia Hurd and husband Joe of Ayr, Nebraska; a brother, Roger Stokes of Red Cloud; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
