Curtis Jeffery

Curtis W. Jeffery, the son of Zula Ellen (Pierson) and Everett Cyrus Jeffery, was born March 23, 1932 at Northbranch, Kansas. He departed this life on Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Jewell County Longterm Care Unit at Mankato, Kansas at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 1 day.

A lifelong resident of the Northbranch community, Curtis received his formal education attending rural Jewell County school and graduated from the Burr Oak High School with the class of 1950. Curtis possessed a love for music, which was instilled in him by his mother at an early age. He and his brothers learned to sing parts, forming a quartet. They continued to sing at various functions into their later adulthood years.

On July 27, 1952 he was united in marriage with Marilyn Brandon at the Northbranch Friends Church. They made their home on the farm south of Northbranch where this union was blessed with three children. In 1996, Curtis and Marilyn moved into Northbranch to live.

A member of the Friends Church, he was dedicated to the Lord and served the church as a trustee and sexton for the cemetery. He also drove a school bus for a number of years. In his leisure time, Curtis enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, riding his four-wheeler, and visiting with his friends and neighbors. His personality was pervaded by his gentle demeanor, compassion and concern for others. He cherished his time spent on the farm and working through harvest. His greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he met.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Lyle, on June 5, 1983.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Marilyn of Northbranch, Kansas; a daughter, Connie Shulda and husband Clay of Cuba, Kansas; sons, Cregg and wife Belinda of Mankato, Kansas, and Todd and wife Gina of Northbranch; 9 grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Shulda of Mankato, Tiffiny (Jerad) Sasser of Cuba, Haley (Pete) Gile of Scandia, Nicole (Aaron) Zadina of Greensburg, Neal and Bethany Jeffery of Mankato, Regan, Kelli and Brady Jeffery of Northbranch; 5 great grandchildren, Brice and Kyla Sasser, Bridger Gile, Brecken Shulda and Thayer Zadina; two brothers, Ardean and wife Marilyn of Tribune, Kansas and Kermit and wife Loyce of Northbranch; a sister-in-law, Beth Jeffery of Superior, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Monday, 10:30 a.m., June 27, 2011 at the Northbranch Friends Church in Jewell County, Kansas with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Interment was at the Northbranch Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Northbranch Friends Church; the Jewell County Longterm Care Unit, or to the donor's choice.
