Fern J. Moore, the youngest of two daughters of Esther (Campion) and Homer Pittington, was born May 17, 1923 at Horton, Kansas. She departed this life on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 11 days.
Fern received her formal education attending Corner View grade school and graduated from the Powhattan High School in Powhattan, Kansas with the class of 1941. After graduation she worked at the Horton telephone company. On July 22, 1944 she was united in marriage with Donald Moore in Amarillo, Texas where he was stationed in the United States Army. Their first son, Stephen, was born in 1945, while living in Amarillo. After Don's discharge they returned to Horton where they purchased their first jewelry store. This is where their first daughter, Connie, was born in 1947. Fern and Don enjoyed operating their own business while living close to both Fern and Don's families. In 1952 they decided to purchase a jewelry store in Superior, Nebraska, where four more children joined the family, Ronald in 1956, Michelle in 1958, Gary in 1960 and Lisa in 1966. They became members of the Superior Methodist Church in 1953.
Fern enjoyed her family and working along side Don at the jewelry store. Many buying trips for the store were combined with family vacations. Fern and Don traveled to Europe on buying trips for several years. It was at this time that they developed an interest in antiques, starting with antique clocks, that would develop into a lifelong hobby for both of them. After Don's death in 1975, Fern continued to run the jewelry store until 1995.
Her love for her family was immeasurable and she especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren. She loved to play bridge with several bridge clubs. In later years Fern did enjoy traveling, especially to Colorado, Texas and Washington state, visiting relatives. In August of 2008 she moved to the Superior Good Samaritan Center to live.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Don, on December 18, 1975; a sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Lloyd Tollefson and a nephew, Jere Tollefson.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Stephen Moore and wife Karen of Seattle, Washington; Connie Frahm of Superior; Ronald Moore and wife Sheila of Superior; Michelle Westphal and husband Steven of Lawrence, Kansas; Gary Moore of Nora, Nebraska; and Lisa Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Parrish Frahm and wife Teresa of Superior; Shane Frahm and wife Lexie of Gretna, Nebraska; Tad Frahm of Nelson, Nebraska; Colter Moore of Scurry, Texas; Jodi Messina and husband of Shreveport, Louisiana; Schuyler Westphal and wife Jasmine, Tristan Westphal and Chanelle Jordan of Lawrence, Kansas; Donald Moore of Superior, Nebraska; her great grandchildren, Morgan Frahm, Cale Frahm, Payton Frahm, Soren Frahm, Stella Frahm, Nevada Diehl, Quinton Westphal, Athena Westphal, Aurora Westphal and Laney Jordan; other relatives and friends.
