Florence Mae Bargen

Florence Mae (Nelson) Bargen, 93, beloved mother and grandmother died peacefully on December 16, 2010 in Lincoln, NE. She was born December 3, 1917, on a Nuckolls County farm. Florence had the good fortune to discover her life's calling as a teacher at an early age. With high school normal training, she began teaching at Churchill, a one-room schoolhouse heated by a wood-burning stove. She also taught at Fairview, Nora, Hardy, Nelson, and substitute taught in Superior.

Florence raised her family while working towards an associate degree in elementary education at Fairbury Junior College and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Kearney State Teacher's College in 1974, 39 years post high school graduation.

Florence was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, Danish Brotherhood, Harmonettes, Women's Christian Union, and the Hardy Union Church. She loved sports and was an avid Husker fan. She will be fondly remembered by family, students, and friends for her love of people and zest for life.

Survivors are sons, Gary (Nancy), Lincoln, NE; Denny (Jody), Columbus, NE; Robert, Milford, NE; and daughter, Barbara Parrott (Gary), Windsor, CO. There are 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Sisters: Geraldine Schultz, Ruskin, NE, and Loetta Pedersen, Superior, NE and sister-in-law, Della Oltmans, North Platte, NE, and many nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by husband, Orval, of 47 years; parents Soren and Anna (Petersen) Nelson; sister Doris Alderman; grandsons Jeffrey Bargen and Zachary Todd Fritz.

Funeral services will be held this Tuesday 11:00 AM, December 21, 2010 at the Hardy Union Church. Pastor Lance Shafer and Danny Jackson will be officiating. Burial will be held at the Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wmsfh.com.
