Karen Armstrong

Red Cloud, Nebraska

Karen Lea (Henry) Armstrong, age 80, of Red Cloud, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at Heritage of Webster in Red Cloud.

Karen was born on March 18, 1946, in Guide Rock, Nebraska to Lyle and Eula (Bowman) Henry. She graduated from Guide Rock High School with the Class of 1964 before continuing her education in Lincoln, where she earned her cosmetology degree and license.

On January 9, 1971, Karen was united in marriage to Richard Armstrong at the United Methodist Church in Red Cloud. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work while raising their four children: JayDe, Kim, Jeff, and Justin.

Karen spent many years as a hairstylist, beginning her career at Zalman's Salon. She later provided hair services and care to residents at Heritage of Webster until the early 2000s. After retiring from cosmetology, she became the friendly face greeting patients as the receptionist for Dr. Cerveny at Red Cloud Chiropractic, where she worked until declining health led to her retirement in 2023.

Karen never shied away from hard work and always found ways to stay busy. She faithfully helped operate the concession stands at the Red Cloud Speed Bowl for many years and was an integral part of her children's cattle showing adventures. Thanks to her background as a hairstylist, Karen became known for putting the perfect tease in every show calf's tail. She also dedicated many years as a 4-H leader with the Red Cloud Progressors, encouraging and supporting countless young people.

Karen had a creative spirit and found joy in making things beautiful. She loved growing flowers, tending strawberry plants, crafting, creating barn art, and designing personalized cards for family and friends. During busy holiday seasons, she shared her artistic talents by helping create beautiful floral arrangements at Nature's Way.

Karen was known for speaking her mind and could be a little stubborn, with a temper that occasionally surfaced and a grudge she didn't always let go of easily. But those who knew her best also knew her generous heart. Nowhere was that more evident than in the love she had for her grandchildren. They brought out her gentlest side. She was endlessly patient with them, loved to spoil them whenever she could, and rarely missed a sporting event, proudly cheering them on from the stands.

Karen's faith was the foundation of her life. It sustained her through life's joys and challenges and gave her hope and peace. Those who loved her find comfort in believing she has been welcomed into the most beautiful place imaginable—a heavenly garden filled with endless flowers, surrounded by peace, love, and never-ending craft tables where her creativity can continue forever.

She joins in her heavenly home her parents, son, JayDe Armstrong; siblings, Leslie Henry and Deb Garrett.

Left to cherish her memories is her husband Richard of Red Cloud; children, Kim Armstrong (Joe Mai) of Osborne, KS, Jeff (Ashley) Armstrong of Red Cloud, NE, and Justin (Ana) Armstrong of Red Cloud, NE; siblings, Dallas Henry of Lawrence, NE, Wanda Duval of AZ, Lila Keen of FL, Sheryl Matson of KS, Lois Gouldie of NE; grandchildren, Shaina Armstrong, Brooks Armstrong, Elyse Armstrong, Owen Armstrong, Lukas Armstrong, Nicholas Campos, Anissa Sauceda, and Andrew Mai; and great-grandchildren Sebastian Campos and Mateo and Abel Sauceda.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 5PM until 7PM at Williams & Kuehn Funeral Home in Red Cloud. Funeral Services will be Friday, July 3, 2026 at 10:30AM at the United Methodist Church in Red Cloud.
