Mark Eugene Austin

Mark E. Austin of Edgar, Nebraska, passed away December 1, 2025 at his home. Mark was

born September 24, 1951, to Dwight and Irene Austin of Gothenburg, NE. He attended

school in Gothenburg and married his wife and best friend, Fern (Murray), on April 8,

1967, at the age of 15.

Mark dedicated his life to working and providing for his family. He enjoyed playing in the

band Double Trouble with his longtime family friend, Steve Holbein. Mark earned his

GED and attended some of the first computer classes in the 1980s; he had a passion

for computers. Mark excelled in his sales skills with Motorola Communications and

Nebraska Wine and Liquor among others. Mark worked for Coop in Gothenburg and

Eustis, NE as well as Twin Valley Communications in North Platte (a Motorola

representative at the time). Mark last worked in Quality Assurance at PW Eagle in

Hasting, NE.

Mark and Fern were married for 54 years until Fern went home to the Lord December 3,

2021. Nearly four years later, Mark joins his lifelong love.

Mark and Fern were proud parents and are survived by their two children, Troy Austin of

Edgar, NE, and Tracie Rossi of Eden, NC. Mark was a beloved Poppa to their eldest

grandson, Kenneth Rasmussen of Omaha, NE, and great-grandson Kenneth Brown of

North Platte, NE, as well as grandson Dakkota Austin and great-granddaughters

Savannah and Sierra.

Mark was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in

death by his parents and his only brother, Ramsey. He was cared for by the folks in the

Edgar community, including his son, his sister-in-law Cheryl Earll of Edgar, and his

church family at the Edgar Christian Church with Pastor King.

Mark's wish was to be cremated and not have a memorial service. Memorials can be

sent to the family at P.O. Box 92 in Edgar, NE 68935.
