Vycke Garman

–

Burr Oak, Kansas

Vycke Kayleen Garman, daughter of Earl and LaVeta (Warner) Winslow, was born on March 6th, 1956, in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She departed this life on January 5th, 2026, at Brodstone Healthcare in Superior, Nebraska, following a courageous three-year battle with Stage IV lung cancer.

A lifelong resident of Jewell County, Vycke received her formal education at Burr Oak Schools, graduating with the Class of 1974. She continued her education at Brown-Mackie College in Salina, Kansas, where she studied court stenography. During this time, she also obtained her real estate license, which she proudly maintained throughout her lifetime.

Vycke later returned to Jewell County, where she began her professional career at Farm Bureau Financial Services as a secretary. Through more than 35 years of dedication and hard work, she earned multiple promotions and ultimately became a leading class insurance agent for north-central Kansas. Her career reflected her strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to serving others.

On January 16th, 1982, Vycke was united in marriage to Daniel Garman at the Burr Oak Christian Church. This union was blessed with three children: Erin, Angela, and Kevin. Family was the center of Vycke's life, and she took great pride in her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Vycke was active throughout her life in several civic and community activities. She volunteered with Jewell County Junior Miss and generously opened her home and heart by hosting multiple foreign exchange students from Russia and Colombia. She and Dan treasured time spent with friends, enjoying card parties and square dancing.

She embraced life's adventures wholeheartedly - taking joy rides in the plane with Dan, traveling whenever possible, and enthusiastically supporting Dan's marathon training. Vycke loved traveling, often convincing Dan to step away from the farm with the promise of a good breakfast buffet. Closer to home, she cherished coffee club gatherings with dear friends.

She was also instrumental in ensuring the success of each harvest season. As a dedicated farm wife and partner, Vycke supported Dan in countless ways: cooking and delivering meals to both Dan and Ken in the field, moving machinery where it was needed, and stepping in to run equipment when the work demanded it. Her willingness to do whatever was required on the farm, often behind the scenes, reflected her deep commitment to family, teamwork, and the life and legacy her and Dan built together across 41 years of marriage. In Vycke's words, "Together we built a life we loved."

Deeply rooted in her Kansas beginnings, Vycke's life reflected the strength, resilience, and quiet determination of the community in which she was raised. Throughout her illness, she met every challenge with grace and perseverance, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her.

Vycke will be remembered for her enduring spirit, her devotion to family, and the kindness and strength she brought into every room. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and LaVeta Winslow, and her beloved husband, Daniel Garman.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Erin Garman and son Grayson; Angela Smith and husband Dave, with children Charlie and Eli; and Kevin Garman and husband Balaji. Also surviving are her sisters, Cindy (Ron) Kuhn and Kimma (Richard) Boyles; her brothers, Ken (Susan) Winslow, Kary (Debbie) Winslow, and Kurbe (Kelly) Winslow; her nieces, nephews, other relatives and her many friends.

Public Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Red Cloud, Friday, January 9, 2026 from 9AM until 7PM with Family Receiving Friends from 5PM until 7PM. The family has chosen private graveside services.
